I have two daughters. And a son. But today, I am writing this with my girls in my mind and in my heart.
The one thing that i feel oh so very strongly about is surrounding my girls with and introducing them to good, strong female role models. They will always look primarily to me for guidance and cues on how to brave this world and behave in this world, with or without intention and with or without my knowledge...
They will of course learn and take inspiration from other women too.
So, over the course of the next however long you keep reading, I would love to introduce you to some amazing babes that I am happy for my precious ones to look to.
Amazing babe #1 isTavi Gevinson.
Tavi is an American writer, magazine editor, actress and singer. She came to public attention in 2008 at the age of twelve because of her fashion blog Style Rookie. The blog, featuring photos of the twelve-year-old in distinctive outfits and her commentary on the latest fashion trends, began drawing nearly 30,000 readers each day. I was one of them. By the age of fifteen, she had shifted her focus to pop culture and feminist discussion. Tavi is the founder and editor-in-chief of the online Rookie Magazine. Rookie focuses on issues impacting teenage girls and is written mainly by teenage girls.
Although I don't always agree or stand by every single thing Tavi utters or remarks on, what i love about her and what I wish to pass to my amazing babes is the fact that she is strong and convicted.
Malcolm X said 'If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything'.
What is it that we are teaching our girls to stand for?
